The story is set during the chaotic final years of the Tang Dynasty. A shadowy government organization called Bu Liang Ren has mysteriously disappeared, taking the imperial treasury's most valuable treasures with them. According to legend, all their secrets are encoded in the Longquan Sword—and whoever holds it can control the world. Li Xingyun lost his parents young and was raised by a hermit named Yang Shuzi, who trained him in martial arts. As a young man, he and his fellow disciple Lu Linxuan leave the mountain to test their skills. There they meet Ji Ruxue and Zhang Zifan, and through a stroke of luck, Li Xingyun manages to get his hands on the Longquan Sword. Word spreads fast, and soon various martial sects are sending assassins after him and his companions—all desperate to claim the sword for themselves.
