Synopsis

The Soul Translator is a cutting-edge full-dive system that connects directly to a user's Fluctlight—basically the digital version of a soul—rather than just sending signals to the brain like older VR tech. The private research institute Rath wants to perfect it and brings in Kazuto Kirigaya, a survivor of the Sword Art Online incident, to help test it out. He works part-time diving into the Underworld, a virtual fantasy world created by the system. There's a catch though: any memories formed while diving get erased when you log back out. The only thing Kazuto can't shake is a vague memory of someone named Alice, and thinking about her in the real world makes him deeply uneasy. One night, while walking Asuna home, Kazuto and Asuna run into someone from their past. A fight breaks out, Kazuto gets seriously hurt, and blacks out. When he wakes up, he's somehow trapped in a full dive in the Underworld with no obvious exit. Now he has to figure out how to get back to the real world.
