Ronie is Kirito's valet and trains in swordsmanship under him. She comes from a lower-ranking noble family and enrolled at Sword Mastery Academy alongside her friend Tiese, both hoping to improve their family standings through education and connections.
Despite ranking in the top 12 of her class—which normally guarantees a desirable position—Ronie ended up as Kirito's valet almost by accident. The truth is, she wasn't actually chosen by him. Instead, she and Tiese were the leftovers after the other elite students had already picked their valets. The problem was their families' low noble status; the academy's elite swordsmen simply didn't want valets from such minor houses, so Kirito got them by default.
Ronie doesn't realize any of this, though. As far as she knows, she earned her position fair and square.
