Kite is the Hunter who starts everything off—he's literally the first one Gon meets in the series. He trained under Ging Freecss, Gon's father, and it's Kite who saves Gon from a foxbear on Whale Island and actually tells him the truth about his dad. Before heading out, Kite hands over Ging's Hunter License to Gon, setting him on his whole journey.
Years later, after Greed Island, Gon crosses paths with Kite again in Kakin, where he's running a zoological survey to catalog new species. By that point, Kite's leading a small team of seven young aspirants trying to break into the Hunter game: Banana Kavaro, Lin Koshi, Monta Yuras, Podungo Lapoy, Spinner Clow, and Stick Dinner.
