Bak Chang is a 29-year-old Chinese man with German wizard ancestry—his great-grandfather was one of the Black Order's founders. He now leads the Asia Branch, the same position his ancestor once held.
Like Komui, Bak takes his responsibilities seriously and adheres to what he sees as God's will. His bloodline and his great-grandfather's seal grant him the ability to cast spells that manipulate the building's structure. As director, he maintains a cold, responsible demeanor, though those close to him know he genuinely cares about others. He's deeply troubled by his family's involvement in the Synthetic Disciple Project nine years ago—the Chang and Epstein families were forced to participate in creating the Second Exorcists. Since Kanda emerged from this project, Bak carries real guilt about it and worries that developing Third Exorcists might hurt him further. He's close with Fo.
He's likely related to Edgar Chang and Twi Chang, both former heads of the Asia Branch. Recent chapters reveal Edgar had a child with Twi and served as a father figure to both Alma and Kanda before Alma killed him. Twi's fate remains unclear, though she was probably killed by Alma as well.
At twenty, Bak and Noise Marie briefly crossed paths with Kanda. He's developed an embarrassingly intense fixation on Lenalee—he carries around a folder of her photos. When Allen discovered this and threatened to expose him, Bak literally broke out in hives.
