She commands Perona Wonder Garden, a section of the ship populated by cute zombie animals that she's painstakingly collected—she's genuinely obsessed with cuteness and can't stand anything that doesn't fit the bill, especially insects.
She ate the Horo Horo no Mi, a Devil Fruit that lets her generate ghost apparitions capable of phasing through people and inducing a depressive state. During the Straw Hats' invasion of Thriller Bark, she looted the Thousand Sunny alongside some of her zombies and pulled guard duty while Absalom was off trying to marry Nami.
Her laugh—horohorohoro—is distinctive and plays off the word "horo," meaning ghost, which also doubles as her fruit's name. Her real dream is building her own nation ruled entirely by cute zombie creatures, with herself as the sovereign.
Interestingly, Perona slept through the entire incident involving Brook five years prior and had no idea he even existed. She got annoyed when Kumashi tried waking her up about it. Like many Thriller Bark characters designed around classic horror movie archetypes, Perona represents the ghost.
