Pearl is Maya's young cousin and one of the most gifted mediums in the family. She's shy at first with strangers, but warms up quickly—once she does, she's friendly, polite, and surprisingly sharp for her age. Her mother Morgan raised her with a strict hand in Kurain, which probably explains why Pearl carries herself with more maturity than most kids. She's become a regular fixture in Phoenix's investigations, where her talent for channeling spirits proves genuinely useful.
On the less impressive side, Pearl struggles with kanji and isn't likely to ace any written exams. She's a fan of Elise Tenryuusai's picture books, though—so she's got taste in at least one area.
Phoenix tends to call her "Pearls" and uses the nickname "Pearly" for Maya, which has become pretty standard. (In the Japanese version, he uses "Harumi-chan" and "Hami-chan" respectively.)
