Taki's the kind of guy who says and does ridiculous things without seeming to realize how ridiculous they are. He first showed up when Sena spotted him trying out for the San Antonio team—shirtless, striking absurd poses (like kicking his leg straight up), and generally acting like he was already a pro. His dream was to make it in the NFL, despite having basically no idea how football actually works or what position he should play. He just figured he was good at everything.
Since he couldn't play American football in Japan without proper qualifications, he drained his savings to fly to America and audition for San Antonio. He bombed the tryout, but the coach saw potential and told him to get some real high school experience first, then try again. Sena ended up impressing them as Eyeshield 21, and feeling like Taki had talent worth developing, asked him to join the Devil Bats back in Japan as a tight end. Taki made the squad after surviving the infamous Death March training.
Despite being a clueless, self-absorbed show-off, he's genuinely talented and a solid asset to the team. He even has a gentlemanly streak buried under all the idiocy. During the Bando game, he actually got serious for once, switched up his look with a samurai topknot, and outplayed Akaba. The moment he got a little praise though, he reverted straight back to his usual clownish self.
Monta absolutely hates his guts. Back in junior high, Taki once asked Monta if a book he found—something called "Son Son" with a chimp on the cover—belonged to him, because he thought Monta looked like a monkey. The two share similar flexibility too, which only feeds their rivalry.
Taki's always calling Suzuna "My Sister," and he's constantly blasting out his signature laugh—"AH-HA-HA!"—while bragging that he's got a 150% success rate at everything. The Ha-Ha brothers find him pretty much unbearable.
