Sena Kobayakawa is small, timid, and used to being pushed around. When he starts at Deimon Private High School, he gets on the wrong side of some delinquents and bolts—fast. Really fast. Years of running from bullies have made him naturally gifted at it. Youichi Hiruma, the aggressive captain of the school's football team, the Devil Bats, spots Sena in action and immediately sees potential. He doesn't ask—he just forces Sena into a running back position, despite Sena wanting to join as a manager instead. Decked out in number 21 and a special helmet to keep his real identity under wraps, Sena becomes "Eyeshield 21," the team's secret weapon. As he plays more, Sena discovers he actually loves football. His new goal is to help the Devil Bats make it to the Christmas Bowl, the high school championship.
