Sergeant Tashigi serves as a Naval officer under Commodore Smoker and first shows up in Loguetown at the rank of Master CPO. She's a skilled swordmaster with an unfortunate habit of being clumsy—the kind of person who nearly stabs herself with her own blade. Despite the clumsiness, she's genuinely knowledgeable about One Piece's legendary katanas, able to rattle off names and histories like she's studied them obsessively. Her own weapon is Shigure, a Wazamono-ranked sword.
Her whole mission revolves around collecting Meitō—those prestigious named swords scattered across the world—and keeping them out of the wrong hands. Meeting Roronoa Zoro lit a fire under her; she decided right then to set out to sea with Smoker in pursuit of Zoro and the Straw Hats. Fans often note her striking resemblance to Kuina, Zoro's childhood friend who died years ago, though the series has kept the significance of that connection deliberately mysterious.
