Letz Cofan, one of three orphans picked up by the White Base during the One Year War, became as much a fixture of the ship as any crew member—though he and his companions Katz and Kikka were just as likely to cause trouble as provide comic relief. They got involved in everything from Ramba Ral's desperate assault on the ship to the chaos surrounding Char's attack on Jaburo, where they actually helped defuse bombs. That last stunt earned them the right to stay aboard when the White Base left Earth for the final pushes at Solomon and A-boa-ku.
By the time the war ended, Letz and the other two kids had demonstrated latent Newtype abilities—reaching out psychically to help Amuro locate the lifeboat carrying the surviving crew after A-boa-ku went down.
After the war, Hayato Kobayashi and his wife Frau Bow formally adopted all three children. The kids tagged along on a visit to Amuro's place in Cheyenne before heading back to Japan with their new family. Letz grew particularly close to Frau, helping her through her pregnancy as she prepared to have another child.
