Susanna—usually just called Susie or Sue—is an American friend of Oono's who's best known in Genshiken for her obsessive love of yaoi and her somewhat abrasive personality. She tends to come across as harsh and unsociable, which caught the other club members off guard early on. What really made her stand out, though, was her habit of dropping random anime and manga quotes in Japanese, written in katakana to emphasize how shaky her grasp of the language actually is. As her Japanese improved, she kept relying on quotes, which made it genuinely hard to tell how much she actually understood—a running source of frustration for Ogiue and others trying to figure out where she really stood linguistically.
Her quote arsenal is genuinely impressive. She's clearly watched everything from Neon Genesis Evangelion and Kimi ga Nozomu Eien to Fist of the North Star, Saint Seiya, Inuyasha, Mahoromatic, Azumanga Daioh, Doraemon, and Lupin III. Beyond the quotes, Sue has an almost obsessive interest in Japanese culture itself. As for her actual age, it's a mystery—even Oono won't spill, and she'd be one of the only people who'd know.
When the manga got relaunched, Sue transferred to Shiiou University as a first-year student and officially joined Genshiken as a new member. She's become really close with Ogiue and still can't resist throwing out her favorite anime lines. Ogiue eventually brought her on as one of her assistants for the official manga she's been writing and drawing.
