Buccaneer is a hard-nosed soldier through and through. He operates on Fort Briggs's brutal philosophy of survival of the fittest, which pretty much sums up his whole approach to life—he'd rather throw the first punch and sort things out afterward. He's genuinely drawn to combat and violence, and he'll happily tear into anyone he doesn't know yet, making full use of predatory animal metaphors when he talks. Trust doesn't come easy to him, and he makes zero effort to soften his treatment of outsiders.
That said, there's a genuine person under all that aggression. Once you're on his good side—once you're a "comrade," in his words—you see his braver, looser side. He's unflinchingly loyal to those he respects and proves himself to be genuinely courageous when it counts. It's just that getting to that point requires proving yourself first.
