Fuchi is the 9th ranked Asaemon of the Yamada Clan, a family known primarily for executions. But unlike most of his peers, Fuchi actually got fascinated by what lay beneath the skin. He threw himself into anatomical research, convinced that understanding human bodies could genuinely save lives—a pretty progressive take for someone whose day job involved capital punishment.
When the shogun sent a crew of criminals to the island of Kotaku to hunt down the legendary Elixir of Life, Fuchi was assigned to shadow one of them: the criminal Tamiya Gantetsusai, serving as his executioner. The setup had all the makings of a tense partnership, but Fuchi's character complicated things. Yeah, he was obsessed with dissection and would jump at the chance to study a corpse, but he was genuinely kind underneath it all—the type who'd put someone else's survival ahead of his own.
So Fuchi occupied this strange space: a guy working within a system built on death, yet driven by a sincere desire to understand human anatomy as a path toward healing.
