Before Kariya forced him to drink the bitto's elixir, Mabashi had stronger convictions. He was genuinely opposed to Bounts consuming living souls and didn't hesitate to disagree with Kariya on the matter. After being forced to drink, though, something shifted in him—he became overconfident, flippant, and increasingly comfortable with cruelty. Against Soifon, he didn't even bother fighting directly, which hints at his real weakness: he's not a particularly sharp combatant on his own. He relies entirely on his doll, Ritz, to do the actual work while he barks orders from the sidelines and watches the show.
The bond with Ritz is genuine, though. He gets genuinely upset when she's hurt and takes real pride in her abilities, even commenting that she's cute during her "playtime" with Orihime, Rukia, and Kuroudo. But this protective side doesn't extend to other people. He's sadistic, clearly enjoying pitting Rukia against Orihime just to see what happens. He's also a troublemaker who likes antagonizing everyone around him, whether they're enemies or supposed allies.
He's particularly disrespectful toward anyone in authority, especially Yoshi. The two constantly clash verbally and physically, with Mabashi frequently calling her "old and ugly." Despite only appearing a handful of times in the series, he manages to leave an impression through sheer attitude and obstinacy.
