Kate
Kate is the main protagonist of the series alongside her Living Doll, Emilico. She's a young member of the Shadow family, one of the mansion's noble families.
She's naturally calm and intelligent, though she keeps people at arm's length—even Emilico, at least initially, despite clearly caring about her. The core of Kate's struggle is that being a Shadow makes emotional expression difficult; her feelings don't come through the way they do for ordinary people, which isolates her. Over time, Emilico's presence helps Kate open up somewhat, though she remains fairly reserved around the other master Shadows.
