A samurai ghost who's been dead for roughly 600 years, Amidamaru is Yoh's most loyal spirit companion. He's taciturn, incredibly skilled, and deeply devoted to his "Lord Yoh"—enough that fans often note his almost unwavering allegiance.
He died in Funbari after a brutal battle where he took down hundreds of enemy soldiers, which made him something of a local legend. Amidamaru originally wielded Harusame ("Spring Rain"), a legendary sword that his best friend Mosuke forged for him. Mosuke appears in the series as a spirit too. During the Shaman Fight, Yoh uses a "spirit sword" version of Harusame in battle, while the authentic blade sits in a museum somewhere.
Despite his quiet demeanor, Amidamaru is genuinely formidable—wise, experienced, and one of the most powerful spirits in the series. His name draws from Amitabha Buddha, a central figure in Pure Land Buddhism.
