Kakeru Manabe first shows up in Chapter 49 of the manga and basically hasn't changed since—he's the perpetually laid-back type who somehow manages to be genuinely fun to be around. As Vice President of Kaibara High School's student council, he's committed to what he sees as the school's "Defense Force" with almost suspicious enthusiasm. He's big on the Super Sentai thing, always joking that he's "Black" while Yuki gets to be "Red" (the leader). When he first met Ayame Souma, he immediately hugged her and decided she was the only person worthy of running the Defense Force, which pretty much sums up his whole vibe—he's basically a younger, less composed version of Ayame.
Personality-wise, people notice he's got a lot in common with Yuki's older brother and with Kyou too, especially when it comes to collecting friends without even trying.
The thing is, despite always acting like he's got it all figured out and genuinely happy, Manabe's got some self-doubt underneath. He can flip serious pretty quick when the situation calls for it, though it doesn't happen often.
He's weirdly obsessed with the Souma family's attractiveness. Like, he'll actually corner different family members and ask them point-blank what their secret is. It's one of his more endearing quirks.
