Shinigami are youkai tasked with the grim work of tracking human lifespans and guiding the dead to Jigoku. They're not one-off monsters—there are plenty of them around, and they tend to look pretty similar to each other. The most iconic one is probably the Shinigami from Kappa no Sanpei, where it keeps showing up to cause trouble. Like a lot of Mizuki's recurring creatures (Nezumi-Otoko being another prime example), Shinigami have popped up across multiple stories in Shigeru Mizuki's work, making them part of his broader youkai universe rather than confined to any single narrative.
