Kona's one of the rare first-generation kids who grew up at Takahara Academy on Izukunoe Island—basically part of an experiment, though he doesn't seem to dwell on it. He and Asura are the only two from that original cohort still around, which makes them pretty unique in the academy's history. Being 17 now, he's spent most of his life on the island, so the facility is just home to him at this point.
