Katsura Kogoro
Katsura Kogoro was a legendary young leader of the Chōshū Ishin-Shishi who helped drive the Meiji Restoration. He's best known for brokering the crucial alliance between Chōshū and Satsuma—two domains that had been bitter enemies—alongside Ōkubo Toshimichi and Saigō Takamori, making the three of them the Restoration's most pivotal figures.
During the Bakumatsu, Katsura spotted Himura Kenshin's talent after witnessing the fourteen-year-old's swordwork with the Kiheitai. He immediately recruited the young prodigy to work as a hitokiri in Kyoto, where Katsura served as Kenshin's direct superior and handler throughout that violent period.
