Ms. Toriumi teaches Japanese to the junior class at Gekkoukan High School and serves as homeroom teacher for Class 2-F. She's best known among players for her obsession with Innocent Sin Online, an old MMORPG where she goes by the handle Maya—a nod to Maya Amano. The protagonist gets a copy of the game from Junpei and eventually joins her online as Tatsuya (referencing Tatsuya Suou). What starts as venting about work frustrations gradually turns into something deeper; she develops feelings for him through their chats. When the game's servers face shutdown, she tries to preserve their conversation logs as a desperate bid to save the game.
As a teacher, Toriumi's pretty laid-back and frequently clashes with Mr. Ekoda. She has one defining quirk: an almost absurd love of cake. Colleagues at school have learned that bringing her cake is basically a cheat code to put her in a good mood before asking favors. She'll eat almost anything—except Mont Blanc, which she actively dislikes. At one point she literally tells a student cake can be part of their assignment submission.
Outside of school, she hangs out with Mrs. Terauchi playing Mahjong after hours. Terauchi's still learning the ropes, and while Toriumi claims to be teaching her, it's pretty clear she's actually using Terauchi's inexperience to cheat her way to a perfect winning streak.
By the Social Link's epilogue, reality crashes into fantasy. The protagonist drops his phone in her office, revealing a background image—a message from Maya written in sand meant for Tatsuya. When Toriumi sees it, she realizes what's been happening. Despite the age gap and awkwardness, she accepts her feelings are real and tries to ask him to dinner, though she storms out angry before anything gets resolved.
