Shun is the team's de facto captain and the fourth tallest player on the roster. He's best known for being the first to recognize that there's a real Eyeshield 21 out there—a genuine player from Notre Dame prep—and for his obsession with tracking down this mysterious figure.
The backstory is pretty compelling: Shun actually quit football during middle school after studying in America, intimidated by how much bigger the competition was. But when he saw the real Eyeshield 21 in action at a Japanese game, something clicked. He was so fired up that he challenged the player right then and there, and they promised to face off again in the finals. The problem? When Notre Dame showed up for their next matchup, Eyeshield vanished without a trace. No one had answers, which led Shun to conclude that Sena—the "Eyeshield 21" Hiruma had created for Deimon—was a total fake. He was convinced the real deal had to be taller.
Shun was relentless about calling out the imposter until eventually accepting that Sena had earned the name. He told him to keep fighting all the way to the finals.
On the team, Shun comes across as the serious one, which means he gets stuck dealing with the other guys' nonsense. He's grown used to ignoring it—like when Sena, Monta, and the others were frantically trying to stop Mizumachi from peeping at the bathhouse, only to get demolished through a wall by Urashima, Kyoshin's cheerleader VP. Later, during the Bando Spiders game, Shun seems to hint that Akaba Hayato might actually be the Notre Dame Eyeshield 21.
