The Sword's Journey
A former Japanese person was reincarnated as a mysterious sword, left to sleep on a pedestal deep within hidden ruins. When it finally awoke, the sword discovered it could move and fight independently through magic, and that absorbing monster cores would strengthen it. Pretty quickly, boredom set in—exploration called.
The sword ventured out but ran into a mana-depleting zone that trapped it for weeks, leaving it powerless. That's when Fran, a black cat beastkin slave fleeing from a monster, stumbled across it by chance. The sword helped her break free from her captors, and the two decided the partnership was worth continuing. The sword gave her a name and a contract that let her share in its abilities; in return, she called it Shishou (Master).
Over time, Shishou summoned a familiar named Urushi, though the creature ended up bonded to Fran as well. One of the sword's stranger abilities emerged later—it could create doppelgangers that took the form of its original human body, giving it options beyond just the blade.
