Nojiko is Nami's adoptive older sister—the two were raised by Bellemere but aren't biologically related. She's best known for her role in the Arlong arc, where she fills in the Straw Hats on Nami's tragic backstory and later helps rescue Luffy after Arlong tosses him into the ocean with his feet cemented in place. Nojiko got her right arm covered in tattoos specifically so Nami wouldn't feel alone about bearing Arlong's pirate mark. When Captain Nezumi, a corrupt Navy officer, tries to steal the money Nami had scraped together for her deal with Arlong, Nojiko steps in to stop her—and gets shot in the back for it, though she survives. In the manga, she gives her bracelet to Nami as a keepsake. She resurfaces later in the story, happy to see that Nami's wanted poster finally shows her smiling.
