An officer in the Orb Union's 21st Airborne Unit, Waltfeld hails from Tassil, a town in northern Africa. When Cagalli heads to the region to join forces with the Desert Dawn resistance, Waltfeld goes along as her bodyguard—a job that mostly amounts to keeping up with her reckless decisions and making sure she doesn't accidentally blow her cover. He's realistic enough to know that stopping her from getting into trouble is a losing battle, so he just rolls with it and watches her back instead.
