1st year student (Grade 10)
Position: Cheerleading Captain (self-appointed)
Suzuna is a cute blue-haired girl who's always on rollerblades. She came to the US hitching a ride with a biker from a local gang, and her first encounter with Sena happened during the Death March when he got separated from the team. Surrounded by American bikers and unable to communicate, Sena overheard someone mention "Japanese girl," "Football player," and "Japan"—and immediately assumed they meant Mamori. He took off looking for her. Turns out they were actually talking about Suzuna and her brother Natsuhiko, who'd also come to America. Suzuna had been searching for Natsuhiko herself, so when she ran into Sena, she thought he was her brother. The bikers found the whole mix-up hilarious and kept egging them on to hug and kiss, even though there was nothing romantic going on. Once Suzuna finally tracked down Natsuhiko, she beat him senseless for blowing the family savings on his trip. She also got to witness Sena's incredible speed firsthand when she saw him play as Eyeshield 21.
After Natsuhiko joined the Devil Bats following his rejection from an American football program, Suzuna followed the team back to Japan. She became the cheerleading captain for the Devil Bats—technically not even a student at Deimon High, but nobody really questioned it. She's the squad's only other female member besides Mamori.
People constantly give her a hard time about her small, youthful appearance. She's particular about how people address her: she hates being called by her family name or being referred to with the formal "san," but she's fine with Doboroku calling her Suzuna-ojouchan.
In the anime version, her story is a bit different. She started out as a part-time reporter for American Football Monthly, trying to track down her missing brother by identifying who Eyeshield 21 really was. When she realized the masked player was too short to be Natsuhiko, she took a tip from Hiruma and headed to America instead, eventually catching up with the Devil Bats during their Death March.
