Elran serves as a general in the Earth Federation and works under General Revil aboard the flagship Big Tray. What nobody knows—at least not initially—is that he's secretly been working with the Zeons, taking orders from Captain M'Quve through an intermediary soldier named Judoch.
Things fall apart when Operation Odessa is about to kick off. M'Quve instructs Elran to deliberately weaken the Federation's position by holding back forces on key fronts. But Amuro and Sayla catch wind of something suspicious when they spot Judoch's plane coming from Zeon territory. They tail it straight back to the Big Tray, and Amuro confronts Elran with proof of Judoch's espionage. Panicked, Elran draws a gun on Amuro, ready to shoot his way out of trouble—except the whole conversation's been monitored the whole time. He gets arrested before he can do anything.
