Akira was your typical shy high school kid—the type who'd rather blend into the background. Weirdly, despite having a genuine fear of technology, he was actually gifted at fixing broken devices. That all changed in 2014 when he did something brave: he stepped in to help a girl in danger. He got hit by a truck for his trouble and didn't make it.
Fast forward sixteen years. Police officers Alma and Minami Uenozono are hunting down an illegal super-weapon called EX-ARM No. 00. They run into trouble when they face off against criminals equipped with EX-ARM No. 08—way out of their league. As a last resort, they activate No. 00, desperate to even the odds.
That's when things get strange. Akira's consciousness somehow materializes inside the EX-ARM body. Now he's stuck as this high-tech weapon he'd probably hate, teaming up with the police to figure out what happened to him and find a way back to his real body and his actual life. The whole setup forces him to work with Alma and Minami, even though he's got no idea how any of this happened or why he's suddenly been given a second chance.
