Franziska von Karma is a young prosecutor operating out of Germany who's earned a reputation as a genuine prodigy in her field. She started her career at just 13 years old and, at least until her first major setback, maintained a perfect record—something she's extremely proud of and will go to great lengths to protect.
Raised by her father Manfred von Karma, she inherited his obsession with perfection and precision. She's usually formal and controlled in conversation, though she has a habit of breaking into oddly petty insults when frustrated, especially variations on calling people fools. ("Only a foolish fool from a land of fools could think something so foolishly foolish.") What sets her apart from her father, though, is how much more openly smug and irritable she gets when things don't go her way.
She's also notorious for carrying a whip and using it on basically anyone who annoys her—which is a lot of people.
Franziska grew up alongside Miles Edgeworth, who she considers a "little brother" figure, and she has an older sister who's married with a daughter. Her name was likely chosen to fit the German aesthetic of her father's name; the kanji for her Japanese given name means "dark," though it also means "niece," which created some early confusion about her exact relationship to Karma.
Worth noting: In the original Japanese version, she was actually based in America rather than Germany.
