The "crow princess" was literally destined to mate with whoever kissed her awake—and of course, that turned out to be Ataru. Not thrilled about it, Kurama threw herself into the exhausting task of trying to make him husband material, all while fending off competition from Lum and Shinobu. She genuinely believed her father, the legendary samurai Yoshitsune Minamoto, represented the ideal man, which set a pretty impossible standard for anyone actually living.
Her search for an alternative didn't go well. Mendou was basically Ataru 2.0. Ryuunosuke turned out to be a woman. Rei transformed into some hideous ushitora creature at the worst possible moment. And because all her potential matches happened to live near Ataru anyway, he kept showing up convinced he was still the chosen one—which only made everything more complicated. Fans often note that Kurama's romantic storyline is basically a comedy of errors stacked on top of another comedy of errors.
