Musse was the daughter of Calgara, a Shandian living on the island of Jaya four centuries ago. She's remembered as beautiful and intelligent—exactly the kind of person her tribe valued.
When a plague swept through their land, the dying priest claimed it was a curse from the gods. The only cure, he insisted, was to sacrifice their most beautiful woman. Musse went to the altar willingly to save her people. She would've been killed by a giant snake worshipped as their god if Montblanc Norland hadn't shown up and killed it instead. Norland had a hunch the plague wasn't supernatural at all—it was treatable.
While Norland and his crew worked to find the cure, Musse and the other Shandians were imprisoned in cages. She used that time talking to Norland's men, learning about their captain and his mission. Eventually Norland returned with the cure, and the village was saved. Musse finally understood the truth, though seeing what had actually happened left her devastated in her mother's arms.
Then came the problem: Norland's crew had chopped down the Shandians' sacred forest while searching for the cure's ingredients. The tribe turned hostile again, treating Norland and his men as enemies. Musse eventually realized why the forest had to be cleared—it was the source of the plague—and she rushed to tell everyone. The villagers rang their golden bell in apology, and her father raced after Norland before he left to beg his forgiveness.
Three years later, Musse married Seto.
