Shinichi Maki is widely considered Kanagawa's best player. As Kainan's captain, he commands serious respect on the court—his teammates listen and execute. He's naturally pretty laid-back, but don't mistake that for soft; he can be ruthless when he needs to be, especially with Kiyota. Sakuragi dubbed him "Old Man" for looking older than he actually is, which Maki finds funny enough to point out that Akagi looks even worse. His main rival is Kenji Fujima.
Maki's primary role is point guard, though he's versatile enough to play almost anywhere on the court. What makes him so difficult to guard is his combination of size, strength, and skill—he'll use his athleticism to power into the paint, score through contact, and draw fouls. Teams have tried everything to shut him down; Shohoku needed four players working in concert just to contain him. When defenses collapse on him, he's quick to find shooters like Soichiro Jin spotting up on the perimeter. His height advantage over typical point guards creates natural mismatches that Kainan exploits consistently.
