Tyranitar is a large, dinosaur-like Pokémon with a hulking frame and green, armor-plated body. Its face is dominated by two sets of jagged teeth, while a collection of spikes juts out from its head, neck, and shoulders at different angles. The most distinctive features are the triangular holes scattered across its chest, back, and knees—plus that distinctive ring of spikes wrapping around its tail tip. It's got three claws on both its hands and feet, and its underside is marked by gray, diamond-shaped scale patches.
Personality-wise, Tyranitar is basically an arrogant powerhouse. It craves battle and won't back down from anything, though it's quick to dismiss opponents it deems beneath it. Its thick, rocky hide makes it hard to hurt, and its raw strength is genuinely terrifying—it can demolish mountains with one hand, and when it gets angry, the earthquakes it triggers can literally reshape the landscape so drastically that cartographers have to redraw maps. It actually nests inside demolished mountains. In the Galar region, it's got an intense rivalry with Duraludon; the two share mountain habitats and constantly fight it out. There's some speculation that Iron Thorns, a Pokémon from a billion years in the future, might be a distant relative.
Forms
Tyranitar can Mega Evolve into Mega Tyranitar, which cranks up the destruction factor to another level entirely. The armor gains more gaps and holes—four new triangular ones along the neck and one at the throat, plus those chest holes get much bigger with red ovals inside the top pair. The head spikes lengthen into prominent ridges over the brows, with the center spike becoming a long, upright horn. Its chest plate expands and curves over the shoulders, creating three jagged spikes per side. The belly scales turn red and pulse with energy. The legs get sharper knee spikes and more defined joints, and the tail grows longer with its surrounding spikes spreading outward and upward. The real kicker is that its back splits open from the sheer power of Mega Evolution. At this point, Tyranitar's destructive instincts are so overwhelming it might not even listen to its Trainer anymore.
Evolution
Tyranitar is the final evolution of a line that starts earlier, evolving from Pupitar.
