Kirio grew up in a family renowned for their magic power, which made his own complete lack of it a source of shame. His parents, disappointed and worried, enrolled him in Demon Children's Garden—a strict institutional school designed to control and raise young demons.
Life there was brutal. Other kids bullied him relentlessly for supposedly disgracing his family name, and the environment itself was cold and punishing. But he found one real connection: a girl his age who was struggling just like he was. She showed him kindness by letting him touch her grandmother's earring—a charm she said would cheer him up.
The bullies, of course, stole it and hurled it off a cliff. Kirio managed to catch it with a barrier technique, but he lost his concentration and the earring slipped from his grip anyway, shattering as the girl watched helplessly. She eventually left the Garden after that, but Kirio's parents refused to let him go. He was stuck there alone.
