Briareos is basically the poster child for what cutting-edge cyborg tech can do in the Appleseed universe. His body is almost entirely artificial, but he's managed to stay remarkably human despite it. His synthetic skin can actually feel things and adjust its temperature, which is pretty wild for a machine.
What really sets him apart physically is his sensory setup. He's got eight eyes total—four on his face (with that big sensor in the middle doing double duty as his nose), two at the base of his distinctive rabbit-ear sensors, and two more at the tips. That last pair lets him peek around corners safely without exposing himself.
His brain gets a serious upgrade too: an auxiliary processor that can handle information conceptually rather than just crunching raw numbers. But the real game-changer is his Hecatonchires system—named after those hundred-handed giants from Greek mythology. This controller lets him manage dozens of limbs or multiple cyborg bodies simultaneously without any strain. The manga even mentions he could theoretically pilot an entire aircraft carrier solo. In the films, you see this in action when he's wielding one rifle through his Landmate's arms while firing another with his control arms.
Here's the kicker though: Briareos is the only cyborg who's ever successfully integrated with Hecatonchires. Every other test subject died trying. The latest Appleseed movie makes a big deal about how unique his compatibility is.
