Mohji is Buggy's first mate and a pompous, somewhat ridiculous character who claims he can control any animal—though he's never really proven it beyond his pet lion, Richie. In practice, Mohji just lets Richie do most of the fighting while he hangs back. That said, he's genuinely fast and agile, with solid whip skills when he actually needs to use them.
He first shows up trying to capture Zoro on Buggy's orders, but Luffy gets in the way. After Mohji burns down a pet-food shop belonging to a dead man (with his grieving dog still inside), Luffy beats him. The whole thing's pretty brutal when you think about it.
When Buggy goes down, Mohji and Cabaji duke it out for control of the crew. They're evenly matched and fight for hours until Richie, sleepwalking, knocks them both unconscious and basically becomes captain himself. Later, when Richie and the pirates get kidnapped by cannibals, Buggy and Alvida help rescue them.
At Loguetown, Mohji's tasked with torching the Going Merry, but he can't pull it off once the rain starts. Nami and Usopp corner him and Richie, and when Mohji sends the lion after them, Usopp just distracts it with an egg. Marine gunfire breaks out, and Mohji escapes with the rest of the crew.
He keeps popping up throughout the series—traveling the Grand Line with the crew, meeting Ace, even showing up in a ninja-themed TV special and various games. Fans often note that his hairstyle changes every arc: teddy bear shape during the Buggy arc, a pink helmet with bunny ears at Loguetown, and a lion's mane once they hit the Grand Line.
