He inherited the position after his brother Chrom, the previous 10th priest, was killed by Ren—though in the manga, Nichrom actually manages to take down Ren himself before Iron Maiden Jeanne brings him back. Later, Nichrom ends up joining forces with Hao.
One thing that's consistently caught fans off-guard is just how young Nichrom is. He was only eight years old when he initially joined the Patch tribe. His spirit companion is a scorpion called Yellow Whip, which he channels through a scorpion's tail as his medium. The cave appears to be the shared plant space for both him and his brother. He's also a vegetarian, something he mentions in volume 17 of the manga.
