Dokugakuji is a youkai character from Saiyuki who serves as bodyguard and right hand to the demon prince Kougaiji. He's best known for being Sha Gojyo's older half-brother—though for years, Gojyo had no idea he was still alive. They originally knew each other as kids; Sha Jien was his actual name back then.
The key difference between them: Dokugakuji is a full youkai, born to their father's legal wife, while Gojyo is half-human, the product of their father's affair with a human woman. Growing up, Dokugakuji often had to manage their mother's violent mood swings by sleeping with her, essentially filling the void left by their dead father. Things came to a head when she finally tried to kill Gojyo—Dokugakuji stopped her, permanently, to save his brother's life.
He eventually left that life behind and wandered into Kougaiji's castle about six years before the story begins. The prince, being unusually trusting, hired him on the spot. Dokugakuji's been fiercely loyal to him ever since, and he's said he owes Kougaiji everything.
Combat-wise, he carries a sword he can summon at will, similar to how Goku summons his staff or how Gojyo calls up his chain weapon. Whenever the two brothers end up facing off, Dokugakuji's usually the one he duels with. He appears in the original Saiyuki manga starting around book three, and shows up again in both Saiyuki Reload and Reload Gunlock anime adaptations.
