Nugire Yainu was a shipwright for the Black Cat Pirates who got killed by the Marines three years before the main story. He's best known for being hypnotized by Jango into believing he was actually Captain Kuro—which worked partly because he happened to look somewhat similar to him.
His name never actually appears in the manga or anime; it only surfaced later in the One Piece Blue Data book. So unless you had that reference guide, you'd have no way of knowing what to call him.
