About Kon

Kon's main job in Bleach is making people laugh—mostly by being the punching bag. When he's not possessing Ichigo's body, his plushie form gets zero respect and constant abuse. He's basically always being stepped on, torn apart, or dressed up like some ridiculous doll by Uryū (who adds insult to injury by sewing a Quincy cross on the back of his head as revenge). Chad's probably his only fan, though even Chad barely acknowledges him. The plushie itself is a knockoff of "Ponkichi" from the show Carnivore Kingdom—Chad's favorite—that Kon won as a prize at a festival game. Kon's got a serious perverted streak and frequently tries to use his cute appearance to get girls to hold him, schemes that almost never work out. After Ichigo stops needing him as much, Kon openly admits he'd love another chance to inhabit his body, specifically to do things like peek at women and pull up skirts since "it's Ichigo's reputation that gets wrecked, not mine." He's also shamelessly into any attractive girl, especially Rukia, whom he calls "sister." What makes Kon unique is that he's a "modified soul"—a special type of soul pill that boosts one aspect of whoever it inhabits. For him, that means superhuman speed and strength. The Soul Society ordered all ModSouls destroyed because of their questionable origins, but Kon got lucky and shipped out with regular soul pills by accident. He's pretty philosophical about it: he believes everyone deserves a chance at life regardless of how they came into existence. Ichigo named him "Kon," derived from "Konpaku" (the Japanese term for modified soul). Kon wanted to be called "Kai" instead—cooler sounding—and Ichigo actually agreed with him, but named him Kon anyway just to mess with him.
