Don Krieg is your standard One Piece power-hungry villain—the type who relies on firepower and numerical superiority to steamroll through problems. He built his reputation on winning, constantly, which naturally made him think he could take on the Grand Line itself. Spoiler alert: that didn't work out.
His whole thing is being overconfident. Years of victories using weapons and overwhelming force convinced him he was unstoppable, and that arrogance is basically his downfall. What's interesting is that Krieg isn't completely oblivious to how his crew functions—he understands they're useful, and after Mihawk tears through them, he actually makes sure they get fed and recover. So he's not totally disconnected from the idea that his men matter to his operation.
That said, he absolutely doesn't care about them as people. Krieg rules through fear and brutality, bullying his own crew to keep them in line. Anyone who disappoints him or shows weakness gets punished harshly, often fatally. It's the classic tyrant playbook: maintain control through intimidation rather than loyalty.
