This unnamed trainer caught Ash's attention while he and his friends were about to eat lunch. He walked up and challenged Ash to a battle, claiming he wasn't strong enough to do much else. Ash was immediately all in—he basically ditched lunch for the chance to fight.
It turned out to be a completely one-sided match. Ash swept all five of the guy's Pokémon without breaking a sweat. Pikachu alone took out three of them with a single Thunder Shock, which pretty much says it all. The trainer looked shell-shocked after getting demolished and vanished from the series just as quickly as he'd shown up.
The one thing that made this random battle notable was that he had a Donphan, which was still unrevealed at the time—making this an interesting early peek at a Generation II Pokémon before its official debut.
