Slaine is an average-height kid who wears the Mars Orbital Knights uniform. He's best known for his unwavering loyalty to Princess Asseylum—basically, he's completely devoted to her. When he even hears she might be alive, he doesn't hesitate to go after her alone, which says a lot about how far he'd go for her.
His backstory explains a lot of this. Slaine was actually born on Earth, not Mars. His father was a scientist researching ALDNOAH drives, and after some kind of incident, both of them were rescued by the royal family and taken in. Working under them day-to-day, Slaine gradually grew close to the Princess—the kind of bond that clearly stuck with him. The downside is that being Earth-born makes him an outsider among Martians, and he deals with prejudice from them because of it. It's a wound that probably runs deep, which makes his connection to Asseylum feel even more significant—she's maybe one of the few people who treats him like he belongs.
