Elsie is a shinigami tasked with hunting down escaped evil spirits from hell, and she's basically the story's second main character. She's got this genuinely sweet, innocent personality—maybe too innocent—and constantly tries to live up to what she thinks being Keima's "little sister" should look like. It usually doesn't work out, partly because she doesn't quite understand how things work in the human world, and partly because her well-meaning schemes tend to blow up in Keima's face. She's weirdly popular with guys. When she started helping out at the family cafe, business picked up noticeably (mostly because of her, let's be honest). Keima's mom even dressed her up as a maid once to boost customer traffic, which. definitely worked based on how people reacted to her. Her feather cloth—that floating scarf she's always wearing—is actually pretty versatile. She can use it to change how things look, create disguises for missions, or just make people invisible. She's left-handed and is almost never without her broom, which she's had for 298 years since her old job was literally cleaning hell. She mentions having an older sister who was apparently legendary, known as the "Demon of Demons." Weirdly enough, despite being a demon herself, she's absolutely terrified of ghosts and the dark. To stay in Keima's life, she lies to his mom Mari and claims to be his illegitimate half-sister—which nearly tanks his parents' marriage—and uses that as her ticket to move into the Katsuragi house and enroll in his school class.
