She trained at the Amusement Media Academy after high school, graduating in 2007. Before that, she was part of a couple of short-lived voice acting groups—Koetchi and Rirachitchi—which wrapped up around 2005-2007.
Itou's probably best known for her long collaboration with fellow voice actress Aki Toyosaki. The two worked together across a bunch of popular shows including Shugo Chara!, To Love-Ru, The World God Only Knows, Hanasaku Iroha, and the Toaru Kagaku no Railgun series. They even hosted the Railgun web radio show together. Her early work earned her a nomination for "Best Rookie Voice Actress" at the 4th Seiyuu Awards.
She maintains an active presence on Instagram (@kanae_1126_ito) and Ameblo, with archives on her old Jugem blog.
In January 2024, she announced her marriage.
