Teuchi runs the Ichiraku Ramen Bar, where his daughter Ayame works alongside him. He's best known among fans for his kindness to Naruto—most notably treating him to an expensive bowl of ramen right before the third stage of the Chūnin Exam, which caught Naruto off guard given how much he usually struggled with money.
Things took a darker turn when Ayame was kidnapped by Hakaku, who was obsessed with stealing Teuchi's ramen recipe. Turns out the whole thing was just about removing the bitter taste from the soup—nothing too complicated, but clearly valuable enough to someone willing to resort to kidnapping.
