Synopsis

Academy City is home to 2.3 million people, about 80% of them students, and it's technologically far ahead of anywhere else on Earth. Most residents develop esper abilities that get ranked from Level 0 to 5—except for Touma Kamijou, a Level 0 with seemingly nothing to his name. Except he does have something: a bizarre power called "Imagine Breaker" in his right hand that instantly cancels out any supernatural ability it touches. Problem is, he insists his actual luck is terrible, and weird disasters constantly prove him right. Then one night, a girl named Index literally crashes onto his balcony and tells him magicians are hunting her. That's when Touma's world explodes open—magic is real, and it exists completely separate from the scientific esper system he thought was all there was. Now he's caught between both worlds, dealing with threats from science and sorcery alike. The question becomes: how's a powerless kid supposed to handle any of this?
