Ao Haru Ride
Futaba Yoshioka learned the hard way in middle school that being popular with guys means getting frozen out by girls. So she made a plan: reinvent herself in high school. She'd act tomboyish and disinterested in boys, and maybe actually make some real friends for once. Then Kou Mabuchi shows up—her first love from middle school, who'd vanished years ago without explanation. Futaba still remembers the sweet, gentle guy she knew back then, and part of her wants to get back to that. But the Kou who returns is completely different: cold, cynical, and broken. He admits his feelings for her were real, but makes it clear they can't go back. He's changed, and so has everything else. From there, the series follows Futaba as she navigates real relationships and genuine friendships while figuring out who she actually is, rather than who she's pretending to be.
