Band-Maid is a Japanese rock band that's been around since 2013, blending hard rock with a deliberate maid café aesthetic—think frilly uniforms and theatrical presentation mixed with genuinely tight musicianship. The concept sounds gimmicky on paper, but they've built a serious following by actually delivering on the music side.
The lineup has stayed stable throughout: Saiki on lead vocals, Miku on rhythm guitar and occasional lead vocals, Kanami on lead guitar, Misa on bass, and Akane behind the drums. All five have been with the band since day one.
Label-wise, they've bounced around a bit. They started on Gump Records, moved to Crown Stones (a Nippon Crown sub-label) in 2016, then shifted to Revolver Records in 2019. In late 2020 they signed with the major Pony Canyon and dropped their album Unseen World in January 2021. For international releases, JPU Records has handled distribution since 2016.
